Holiday season is upon us again and it’s true…we do get snow in Florida. In Celebration in fact.

Starting on 29 November Celebration Town Center will kick off it’s 10th anniversary of the month long “Now Snowing”. A tree lighting ceremony will kick things off from 6pm to 9pm and there will be live music, Santa Claus, and, of course, snow, made by the popular snow machines.
So, why not get along if you’re on vacation here and enjoy the strolling Charles Dickens carolers, photo op’s with Santa and horse drawn carriage rides. Parking and admission is completely free.

Tuesday, November 18th. There’s an anniversary today that many people will find hard to believe – Mickey Mouse is 80 years old!
One of the nation’s most enduring entertainment figures appeared for the first time on this date in 1928 in a cartoon called “Steamboat Willie.” It was the first animated talking cartoon, created by Walt Disney, who provided the squeaky voice himself. It was considered a technological marvel, and its success allowed Mickey to be joined shortly by the spluttering, irascible Donald Duck. The motion picture industry has undergone big changes since Mickey’s debut in 1928. The next year, movies generated $720 million in revenue. Now, movies are a $63 billion a year business. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau online at www.census.gov.
It’s always nice when someone remembers your birthday and it’s even better when you receive a card in the mail. Make sure that Florida Leisure has the names and dates of your immediate family and their relationship to you because we want to make sure we remember their birthdays as well, that’s what families do and you are part of ours.
Hopefully, next time you come to visit Mickey Mouse you’ll stay with us again. You know that if you tell Mickey when your birthday is, he’ll treat you to a free visit to Disney World on that day–plus if you are staying with us for that happy occasion, we’ll make sure we’ll bring round a cake, so make sure you e-mail me those birthdays while you are telling Mickey.

Wow! What a wonderful sight this evening as I watched Space Shuttle Endeavour soar into space above many of the Florida Leisure Vacation Homes on Cumbrian Lakes around 8.00pm.

I’ve seen many day time launches but there’s always something special about a night launch and the opportunity to watch the shuttle disappear into the night sky. I’d estimate that you actually see the shuttle for twice as long at night as you do at day and it burned so brightly as it went past the moon tonight!

A great sight …and if you’re lucky enough to be here staying in a vacation home tonight…you had a very special treat.
I wish I understood the economy. My big question is: “Does anybody?”
The country has clamored for change, the day before change the Dow rose high and fast … the first two days of change it fell, and today it rose slightly. Makes no sense.
Gas prices … just a couple of months ago we were nearly paying (some of you did) $4 per gallon … I did the math a while ago and said we should now be paying no more than $2 and change per gallon, based on the price per barrel … lo and behold last night I saw gas at $1.99 per gallon.
I guess the moral of the story is going to be change isn’t instant … hopefully that means by Christmas we will all be feeling much better … financially and spiritually.
Hope springs enternal.
Finally, the election is over. Did the right man win? I guess only time will tell. I can’t vote. I am not an overly political animal, probably because I don’t want to be like my dad, running for this and that, supporting this guy or this party … it just doesn’t interest me, although one of my proudest possessions is a pocket-size copy of the constitution given to me by my late grandfather-in-law. What interests me is how I wake up in the morning. I want to feel good. I want to feel good about my life … my family … my work … I want to feel happy about where I live. This country hasn’t made me feel that way for a long time … and I don’t think it is solely down to politics. This country needs a feel good moment and last night may be the catalyst. I want the America back that I moved to … the land of opportunity, beloved and respected around most of the world. As I watched McCain and Obama last night with their speeches, I was in awe. Where was this John McCain during the election? When did Obama become so poised? I felt I was watching Reagan and Kennedy. I hope these two can work together … screw the electoral college (I don’t even know why that exists for Presidential Elections), the popular vote shows that it was close and I am glad that McCain is going to stay in service, because those votes showed that people believed in him, and if like Al Gore did, you turn your back on politics, what message are you sending to the people who voted for you? It is time for government to tear down the party lines and do what is right for this country … my adopted country … the place I want to spend the rest of my life … and not for themselves. Old school government conducted in secrecy must be consigned to the trash. The one thing that I didn’t really get the big fuss over is “First African American President” … doesn’t anyone watch “24”. Seriously though … I guess race isn’t as big a feature in the UK when it comes to political office … well not in my world. For me it was a bigger shock when Margaret Thatcher was elected Prime Minister … I will reserve my big shock for when a woman gets elected President … or a Jew or even a Catholic for the second time or an Actor (oops done that … maybe an Austrian actor). Barack Obama may be an African-American, but he is also an Ivy League graduate … just like many other presidents. I would be more shocked if a President got elected who hadn’t that educational background nowadays. Also the fact that 61% of those who elected him were white shows that the color barrier has well and truly been pulled down. What now for the future? I don’t believe Obama will be able to even get a fraction of his manifesto passed, but no one ever does, but from a marketing point of view, what a great face to base the rebirth of America around. I only hope and pray that our morally corrupt and informationally-suspect secret service are motivated enough to make sure he takes office. As was quoted last night from the constitution — “government of the people, by the people, for the people …” politicians on all sides need to remember that. This is our land. God Bless the United States of America.
